On behalf of everyone at the Faculty of History in Ourense, and in particular its governing body, I would like to welcome all students and anyone interested in the courses offered here. Our facilities are located on the ‘north campus’, in the area closest to the city centre. Our main building is popularly known as the ‘Iron Building’, a regular meeting place for students, administrative and support staff, and lecturers.

We are a public higher education institution and, as such, our primary objective is to educate individuals who will actively contribute to the development of society, offering a well-rounded education that goes beyond the various degree programmes we provide. Our hallmarks have always been a commitment to the highest quality of teaching, the scientific rigour of our education and a special relationship with our local community, alongside a commitment to student mobility programmes, as befits a modern and dynamic faculty.

These elements form the essential foundation of our community of study, research and thought. Gaining a deeper understanding of our present by unravelling the complex interactions that gave meaning to the world of those who came before us is not merely the best way to awaken our critical awareness, foster tolerance and respect for diversity, or promote responsibility and commitment. Above all, it is the guiding light that must steer our individual and collective actions in the service of building a more humane, fairer and more caring society. And this is also the meaning behind this greeting, which is intended as both an invitation and a thank you to all of you who have decided to embark on the exciting task of ‘Making History With Us’.
